As part of my aim to love, live, Lebanon, I went with my friends on an unknown destination road trip towards the Maten Mountains. It was an unexpected trip and nostalgic of a kind (you’ll notice that from the music played).
Arriving to Kaakour from Beirut, after passing the long dull highway, we arrived to the green bliss. Kaakour another calm village in the Lebanese mountain, just next to Mar Moussa Monastery where they grow organic vines and produce Adyar (as in monastery) wine alongside 2 other monasteries in Jbeil and Chouf.
The air was so fresh and you can smell the soil after a rainy day. One of my favorite nature aromas is the earth sent after the first autumn rain. This ride just like any other never goes by without some fun on the road, whether it’s an old school bus or a lighting cone in the car, it’s always exciting.
After a long ride, it was time for food. We stopped by a restaurant called “pi w nina”. When approaching the place, it’s old calm looking. From the inside the view is amazing. I will visit it during the winter, with the cozy fire place in the middle and snow outside, it’d be just mesmerizing. The service in the restaurant is quiet perfect with the friendly waiters and owner. The food well it isn’t worth mentioning, I wish they had a more village style restaurant with the saj and so.
One of the places that really surprised me was a hospital called Bhannes Hospital. It looks like Switzerland. Apparently, the hospital was built by the French and it was long a destination for people with asthma. The trees, the road, the silence, all in all it was just astonishing. We took a sneak peak in it and it’s to be unmissed.
